The full extension, not a reduced edition

This ZIP is the full local build at its release commit. No extension features are disabled for this download. Features that normally start off remain off until you enable them.

AI features use your signed-in provider accounts and their available models, quotas and terms. A free extension download does not include an AI subscription. The dictionary is downloaded separately on first use and then cached locally.

Desktop Chromium browsers

Vynx requires a desktop Chromium browser, version 148 or newer, with the extension APIs its manifest declares. Brave is the development target. This release passed automated checks in the pinned full Chrome for Testing browser on Linux. Chrome, Edge and Opera are Chromium-based too, but their engine versions, extension APIs and organization policies can differ, and this release has not been validated in them: Chromium ancestry alone is not a compatibility guarantee.

Mobile browsers, older engines and organization-managed installations are not covered. This is a direct ZIP download, not a Chrome Web Store listing or a one-click CRX installer.

Install Vynx

1. Download vynx-chrome.zip and check its SHA-256 against the value under Release identity before you open it: shasum -a 256 vynx-chrome.zip on macOS, sha256sum vynx-chrome.zip on Linux, or Get-FileHash vynx-chrome.zip -Algorithm SHA256 in PowerShell on Windows. Stop if the values differ.
2. Extract the ZIP into a new, empty folder you keep, somewhere only you can write. The browser loads the extension from that folder, so moving or deleting it breaks the installation.
3. Open your browser's Extensions page, for example brave://extensions or chrome://extensions.
4. Enable Developer mode, select Load unpacked, and choose the extracted folder containing manifest.json. If your organization disables this option, ask its administrator rather than bypassing the policy.
5. Pin Vynx to the toolbar, open its popup or Settings, and select the tools you want to use. Sign in to Claude or GitHub before using its chat features.

The MCP Bridge stays stopped on a fresh install. Each browser profile creates its own bridge identity; no personal enrollment, account credentials or saved history are included in the download.

Update without changing the installation

An unpacked installation has no automatic updates and makes no update checks. Check this page for a new version; latest.json names the current release.

1. Stop the MCP Bridge and finish or stop active chat, proofreading and Browser Agent work. Export saved chat history from Settings before an update or a folder move.
2. Download the new release, check its SHA-256 as during installation, and keep a backup of the current extension folder. Replace the files inside the same installation directory. Do not remove the extension or load a different folder as a second installation.
3. Open the browser's Extensions page and select Reload for the existing Vynx entry. Reopen Vynx and check its version before restarting automation.

The same folder preserves the extension ID and its profile-local data. Uninstalling or changing the folder can change the ID or remove access to that data.

Drafts stay in the same browser profile when you close a view or reload the extension. Recovery preserves the exact text, provider, model, skill, effort and captured context. Restore a recovered draft explicitly, review it and press Send yourself. Recovery never automatically sends a request or restarts an agent. Restore does not replace a nonempty composer or discard the original recovery record.

An interrupted request may already have reached its provider or changed a page. Check the provider conversation and page state before sending it again. Draft recovery is not proof that an interrupted request failed.

The browser does not verify the integrity of an unpacked extension's files, so only the published SHA-256 proves the download is the one released here. Anything that can change the files in that folder can change what Vynx does: keep the folder where only you can write.

Connect a coding tool only if you need it

Vynx works without acli. For terminal-driven browser work, acli can connect your coding tool to the MCP Bridge. In Vynx Settings, enroll the exact browser profile through your trusted local client setup. Keep its Session ID private; it authorizes access to that profile. Do not paste a real Session ID into prompts, public configuration or shared documents.

Personal and work profiles need separate enrollment. Starting the bridge grants the connected tool authority to drive the selected browser. Ordinary actions execute without a per-action approval prompt; keep the visible bridge activity feed in view and stop the bridge when you are finished.

Evaluate the bridge in a dedicated profile without sensitive accounts or pages. A narrower action catalogue is not a confidentiality guarantee: ordinary page content and rendered captures can reach the connected client through the bridge server.

The versioned address keeps this release's bytes unchanged. The package is rebuilt from its source commit and published only when the rebuild is byte-identical and both Vynx's own and Lifub's independent private-data checks find nothing to withhold: no developer paths, development extension IDs or operator configuration ship in it.

Release notes: Gemini text Chat and Proofread return through the selected profile's default-account native tab. Auto uses its native mode, while explicit model choices come from that account's native menu. New recoverable turns use companion history; existing native conversations and legacy local history remain intact. Gemini usage is opt-in and shows unknown limits when the native page exposes no counters. This does not add Gemini image sending or Browser Agent access.

YouTube declutter can hide desktop Premium statement banners when you opt in to the distractions switch. It leaves ordinary videos, podcasts and branded video shelves visible. Thumbnails and hover previews stay visible by default. Enabling declutter selects the other six filters; loading settings preserves your saved choices. Ad-filter settings ignore delayed older reads after a newer change. Context-menu proofreading shows visible refusals, and a refused second attempt keeps an earlier request running. It handles ordinary "Message to ..." recipient labels while sensitive fields and selections containing embedded media remain protected. Proofreading can replace an unchanged selected paragraph without changing adjacent paragraphs. Your exact original and complete reply are saved in Vynx chat before replacement.
